The project will suggest a memorial in a pavilion format for temporary instal¬lation. First, the site was planned to be in¬stalled in front of the Vietnam War Me¬morial in Washington, DC, USA. The basic design of the Memorial attempts to embrace the concept of the existing memorial. “Walking through this park-like area, the memorial appears as a rift in the earth, a long, polished, black stone wall, emerging from and receding into the earth. Approaching the memorial, the ground slopes gently downward and the low walls emerging on either side, growing out of the earth, ex¬tend and converge at a point below and ahead. Walking into this grassy site contained by the walls of the me¬morial we can barely make out the carved names upon the memorial’s walls. These names, seemingly infinite in number, convey the sense of over¬whelming numbers while unifying these individuals into a whole.” However, I am going to propose a verti¬cal pavilion away from the existing hor¬izontal design method.
